The Luke Somerfield Memorial Trust is a charity which has been set up to honour the memory of Luke, who died tragically at Cilyrychen Quarry on June 6th 2012. He was 14 years old and a pupil at Ysgol Tre-Gib, Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire.

The objectives of the Trust are the advancement in life of young people up to the age of 18, living in Carmarthenshire by providing advice and assistance and organising programmes of physical, educational and other activities.

Trust News Update

It is just over a year since the trust in Luke's memory was established so we thought that this would be a good time to take stock and reflect on what has been achieved in this short time.

Last Summer nearly 300 schoolchildren attended Water Safety Awareness courses funded by the Trust and we are already signing up pupils for the 2014 programme. Our aim is to educate the pupils, as they enter secondary school, of the dangers of water and how to avoid them at a time in their lives at which they become more independent and curious and are more likely to explore dangerous locations such as quarries and rural waterways. We hope to extend this course throughout Carmarthen in the future.
